This explains what information Nocturnal Studios and this website collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions: [email protected].

Who we are

Nocturnal ("we", "us") sells and supports Nocturnal Studios, a Windows app for preparing videos for TikTok, and runs this website. We are based in Missouri, United States.

What we collect and why

  • When you buy: payment is handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details, name, email address and billing details. We never see your full card number. We receive your email address, a payment ID, and whether the payment succeeded, was refunded or was disputed.
  • Your license record: your license key, your email address, the payment ID, the date, whether the key is active or cancelled, a computer code, and how many times you moved the key to another computer. The computer code is a one-way fingerprint made from your Windows install ID. It does not contain your name, and we cannot turn it back into your Windows install ID.
  • When the app runs: each time it starts, the app sends your license key and the computer code to our license server to confirm your license is valid. The app also checks this website for update messages. Like any internet request, these reveal your IP address to our hosting provider.
  • Support: any messages you send us by email or on Discord.
  • Older customers: if you bought before this website sold the app and your key came from Payhip, we check that key with Payhip when you first activate it.

What we do not collect

  • Your videos. They are processed on your own computer and are never sent to us. If you upload a finished video to TikTok, you do that yourself in your browser.
  • Cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking. This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. It saves one setting (the motion on or off switch) in your browser on your own device, and that setting is never sent to us.

How we use it

To deliver your key, check your license, cancel a key after a refund or payment dispute, answer support requests, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the records the law requires. We do not sell your information, we do not send marketing emails, and we do not show ads.

Who we share it with

  • Stripe, to take payments.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts this website and runs our license server and the database that stores license records.
  • Payhip, only to check older keys that came from Payhip.
  • Authorities, if the law requires it.
  • The optional Nocturnal Uploader browser extension runs inside your own browser. It has a "Check status" button that, only when you click it, asks a status service run by Silent (api.silentmethod.xyz) whether there is a maintenance notice. That request reveals your IP address to that service.

Where your information is kept

Our providers operate in the United States and other countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live.

How long we keep it

We keep your license record for as long as your license exists, and afterwards for as long as we need it for taxes, accounting and to handle disputes. Server logs kept by our hosting provider are kept for the period their own policies set.

Your choices

  • You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us at [email protected] from the address you used to buy. We aim to reply within 30 days.
  • If we delete your license record, your key stops working. We may keep the records the law requires us to keep, such as payment records.
  • Depending on where you live, for example in California, the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights. We will respect them.

Children

You must be at least 13 to use Nocturnal Studios, and if you are under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.

Security

Your connection to this website and to the license server uses HTTPS. Licenses are signed so they cannot be forged, and access to the license records is limited to us. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant we will say so on the website.
